Once upon a time, computers were giant machines touched only by a few mathematicians in mysterious laboratories.
And today — they fit in our pockets, on our wrists, and even become a part of my brain while I write these lines. 😏
So how did this digital evolution happen?
Let’s rewind time together and wander among cables, transistors, and lines of code. ⚡
🧮 1st Generation (1940–1956) — The Era of Vacuum Tubes

The first computers were basically giant electronic heaters. 🔥
Vacuum tubes were glass tubes that controlled electricity by turning it on and off —
and there were tens of thousands of them inside one computer!
That’s why these machines loved to overheat and break down often.
🧠 ENIAC (1945) — weighed 30 tons, had 18,000 tubes, and could perform 5,000 operations per second.
It’s a million times slower than a smartphone today, but back then it was a revolution. 💥
🧩 Programming was done using punched cards.
In other words, writing code = punching holes = finger workout! 💪
💡 Practical note:
The first-generation computers used machine language (binary) — they “spoke” in sequences like 01011010.
If you made a mistake, the computer wouldn’t say “syntax error.”
It would literally smoke. 😅
⚙️ 2nd Generation (1956–1963) — The Transistor Revolution

And then came the superhero of technology history:

Transistors were miniature versions of vacuum tubes but:

- Took up less space 📏
- Worked much faster ⚡

IBM 1401 and DEC PDP-1 became the stars of this era. 🌟

- Memory shifted to magnetic core memory.
- Assembly language was born — programmers could now use instructions like

Computers were no longer limited to science or the military;

💡 3rd Generation (1964–1971) — The Age of Integrated Circuits

and that’s what we call an Integrated Circuit (IC).
